Verride Palace Santa Catarina is an example of Urban Renewal for Tourism

The best 2018 projects of urban renewal were revealed this Wednesday in Braga. Lisbon, Porto, Braga, Matosinhos, Marco de Canaveses and Arouca were the awarded municipalities this year, as they hosted the renewals that were awarded the prizes in urban renewal interventions: they won all ten categories in the contest. The prizes for the National Urban Renewal Awards were handed in the Colunata Eventos venue, at Bom Jesus Park, in Braga and gathered more than 300 people.

Le Monumental Palace Hotel wins renewal award

Le Monumental Palace Hotel | Porto, Portugal

The Le Monumental Palace Hotel, in Porto, won the 2019 National Urban Renewal Award in the Tourism category.

The winners of this award were announced on Thursday, 9th May, at a ceremony that gathered over 250 people. Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra were hosts to the distinguished projects. There 80 candidate projects on a total of 210.000 sq. meters (0.081 sq. miles) in intervention areas across 20 municipalities North to South of Portugal.

República Building 37, in Lisbon, wins three awards

República Building 37 | Lisbon, Portugal

The name doesn’t fool you. República 37 dwells in República Avenue, more precisely on the left side, going up from Saldanha to Campo Pequeno, on the corner with Miguel Bombarda, just two blocks away from Versailles pastry shop.

Built in the 19th century, it is not a small building – it has almost 5000 sq. meters (53819 sq. feet)- and its palace-like design and curved façade won’t let you look away. Even less now, that it has totally been renewed and reconverted to its original use, dwelling.

Best Achievment 2010 Award

ECA (European Club Association) 2010 DRAGÃO STADIUM | PORTO FOOTBALL CLUB

In 2010, the European Club Association introduced the concept of ECA Internal Awards. Their goal is to reward clubs’ excellent achievements, congratulate them and motivate their best performances, support the clubs’ managing and strengthen the relationships among ECA’s members.

The prize that was awarded to Dragão Stadium was a result of the high demand for sustainability that guided the project, namely for its:

  • Community-awareness raising, through a series of advertising campaigns;
  • Reduction of energy consumption;
  • Increase of recycling rates and cutting down produced waste.

According to ECA, the project’s success can be evaluated by the following figures/facts, between 2006/07 and 2008/09:

  • 10% energy consumption reduction;
  • 34% increase in separating waste;
  • – 23% reduction on overall waste.

IHRU AWARD – HONORABLE MENTION

INSTITUTE FOR HOUSING AND URBAN RENEWAL, 2010 CASA JOVEM HOUSINF AND BUILDING | GUARDA

This award aims to distinguish works where building quality, environment and sustainability issues, renewal and adaptation towards new real estate functionalities, integrated urban arrays and depth in these skills are evident. By architects Álvaro Siza Vieira and António Madureira, this venture counted on our company for its electricity, security and communications, where sustainability and energetic efficiency were dominant matters.

“SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE” AWARD, FASSA BORTOLO

Concreta 2004, Exponor SELFSUFFICIENT MODULES

The ‘Sustainable Architecture’ awards stem from the determination to praise architecture that can relate with the environment in a balanced way, that is thought to satisfy Man’s needs and able to manage resource expenditure without hazard for future generations. These houses were equipped with solar panel systems with a power of 2,2kW and 72 hour autonomy. The energy command and management system is done by EIB.

GRRENLIGHT AWARD 2004

Frankfurt 2004 DRAGÃO STADIUM | PORTO FOOTBALL CLUB

Debuted in 2000, the ‘Greenlight’ consists of a volunteering program through which public and private organizations commit to reduce their electric consumption in lighting, towards the European Commision, and thus reducing pollutant emissions. This award, held in Frankfurt by the ‘Greenlight’ organization, was taken by LIGHTPLAN’s lighting project in Dragão Stadium, by architect Manuel Salgado, due to its great results in energetic efficiency.
