Fernando Silva Gusmão

Fernando Silva Gusmão was born in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, in 1955. He has a degree in Electrotechnical Engineering by Porto Engineering Institute since 1976.

Also an Electrotechnical Engineering professor, he is responsible for Lighting since 1977. He had an internship in Public Lighting in Porto Municipality Services in 1978. In 1989, he founded the OHM-E Electrotechnical Engineering Office company. In 2002, he also founded the LIGHTPLAN – Consulting, Lighting and Engineering company, a partner of the GREENLIGHT program.

He is a member of the CPI – Portuguese Centre of Lighting – and has been the coordinator of the North Region since 2006. He is often a speaker on the Lighting theme at the Architecture Faculty of the Porto University, the Architects’ Order, at the Porto Engineering Institute, Minho University and in Sao Tome and Principe. From 2007 through 2009, he lectured Museum Lighting and Preventive Conservation in the Master’s degree of Museology at Porto’s Catholic University. He attends several international specialization courses within the Lighting field: lighting design, alternative energies and energy management (France, Switzerland, Belgium and Spain).

He is the author of several projects of Electrotechnical Engineering and Lighting, focusing on sustainability through energetic efficiency and alternative sources of power.

He regularly publishes scientific articles in specialized magazines, namely: Volt Lighting Design, O Electricista, IP – Instalação Profissional, Schréder – The Urban List.
